Sunday - 26th March

We are absolutely stoked to be able to bring you a unique piece of running in New Zealand, maybe even the world. The great folks at Meridian have allowed us access to over 25km of trails up amongst one of the most advanced wind farms in the world. High quality trails with more variety than you could ever expect, from pine needle tracks through forest, to coastal trails with the Cook Straight crashing on the rocks beside you, to ridge lines with the South Island only 25 kilometers away. And finally, and uniquely, you’ll be running amongst 110 meter wind turbines.

long course
18 km

Huge variety on this course, with complete changes in terrain every 2 to 3 km. Some areas open and fast, others highly technical. Three short but sharp climbs. An hour and forty minutes if you’ve got form, two fifteen to three hours if you don’t.

Course runs anti clockwise. Start at HQ and run toward Wharehou Bay. Hit the coastline and rock/log/sand hop your way around the coast. Take a left up a steep ridgeline climb then veer right through a junction and in to some pine forest single track. You can run fast in here. Then it gets more technical through some native bush before you follow a creek out to a valley floor. Run up the valley for a couple of hundred meters before turning right up onto another climb towards the wind turbines. Take a left at the top of the climb and enjoy the views until you turn left and leave the road through a gate. Double back a little and until you dive down into the valley again. One last climb before you hit the service road, turning left to head back to Race HQ. All climbs are short but tough. As a clue all roads on the pic above are on ridgelines. Course is subject to track and weather conditions on the day.
